Type Locality and Naming
E. Heilongjiang – Wandashan and Sanjiang. The Hailang Formation was named by Yang Yaoyu (1975) in the Hailang Town of Pingan County. The type locality is the Sandaoliangzi- Hadawan section in the Pingan County, Heilongjiang (129°10′, 44°19′). The Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Heilongjiang Province (1997) referred the Qixinghe, Yanwo and Sipingshan formations into the Hailang Formation.
Lithology and Thickness
The Hailang Formation is a group of multi-colored sandstone and mudstone. Lower part consists of purple conglomerate, gravel-bearing sandstone, feldspar sandstone, intercalated with siltstone and mudstone. Upper part is multi-colored feldspar sandstone, siltstone and mudstone, intercalated with gravel-bearing sandstone. It is 1011.78 m at the type section, and generally over 1000 m in the region.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Hailang Formation overlies the Houshigou Fm disconformably.
Upper contact
Regional extent
It is distributed in the Mudanjiang, Muling, and Sanjiang areas.
